About Us

Marrakech Café is the perfect place to spend time (brunch, lunch or an exotic evening) with your partner, family or friends. We have set up our restaurant in authentic Moroccan style. Relax and let our unique atmosphere – complete with coloured glass and gilt lanterns – transport you to Morocco, lulled by the gentle sounds of African music.

Our tempting Moroccan dishes are created from fresh local ingredients by Moroccan head chef (and father of four) Abdel. Born in Marrakech, with an Arabic and Berber background, Abdel began cooking in the famous Jamal El Fana market after learning from his mother in the family kitchen. He then worked his way around the world as a professional chef before opening the Marrakech Café in 2007.

We have received many favourable reviews, including those in the Sunday Star Times and the Dominion Post. In David Burton’s list of  Top 10 ethnic dishes, our Chicken Bastella was rated Number 1 in Wellington, a huge achievement for a small restaurant!

Marrakech Café is very popular with locals as well as visitors from around New Zealand and around the world. Advance bookings are strongly recommended.
